Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 22, 2026
Thaksalawa ("Thaksalawa", "we", "us", or "our") provides an online exam-practice platform for Sri Lankan students, covering this website and the Thaksalawa practice app. This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Thaksalawa, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information you provide directly
- Account information: when you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google.
- Practice activity: your answers, scores, time spent per question, and topic-level performance when you use the practice app.
- Communications: anything you send us directly, for example by email.
Information collected automatically
- Usage and analytics data: pages viewed, device/browser type, approximate location (from IP address), and referring pages, via Google Analytics and Cloudflare Web Analytics.
- Local preferences: your light/dark theme preference, stored in your browser's local storage. This never reaches our servers.
We do not collect payment information directly at this time.
2. How We Use Information
- Provide, maintain, and improve the practice platform (mock exams, analytics, leaderboards)
- Personalize your experience, for example by surfacing your weak topics
- Show your ranking on leaderboards, using a display name rather than your email address
- Communicate with you about your account or important changes
- Monitor and improve site performance and security
- Comply with legal obligations
3. How We Share Information
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only with:
- Service providers who help us run Thaksalawa, such as Supabase for hosting, database, and authentication, Google for sign-in, and analytics providers — all bound by confidentiality obligations
- Other users, limited to what you choose to show on leaderboards, such as a display name
- Legal authorities, if required by law or to protect our rights, our users, or the public
4. Cookies & Similar Technologies
We use minimal cookies and local storage:
- Analytics cookies (Google Analytics, Cloudflare Web Analytics) to understand site usage
- A local-storage entry for your theme preference (dark/light)
You can control cookies through your browser settings. Some features may not work correctly if you disable them.
5. Children's Privacy
Thaksalawa is designed primarily for GCE Advanced Level and other exam candidates, many of whom are minors. If you are under 18, please use Thaksalawa with the involvement of a parent or guardian. We do not knowingly collect more personal information from children than is necessary to provide the service, and we do not use children's data for third-party advertising.
6. Data Retention
We retain account and practice data for as long as your account is active, or as needed to provide the service. You may request deletion of your account and associated data at any time — see Section 8.
7. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encryption in transit and access controls on our database. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.
8. Your Rights & Choices
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate information
- Request deletion of your account and data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at vibeappsonline@gmail.com.
9. Third-Party Links & Content
Thaksalawa links to or reproduces past papers and content from third parties, such as examination authorities. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of external websites you may visit through such links.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will post the updated version here with a new "Last updated" date. Continued use of Thaksalawa after changes take effect means you accept the revised policy.
